Defining Creativity: Understanding What Creativity Is

Being a creative comes with a lot.

For instance, I already wrote this posting. It was full, lengthy, and had such a tender meaty subject matter that you could want to chew on it for the rest of your life and it would still be packed with flavor. Yet, I was forced to go back to the drawing board and flex my creative muscle to get this series intro done, questioning if this posting would be just as good. In the process of recovering from what felt like such an epic waste of my time and efforts, I was reminded of my why.

Why I create. Why I want to communicate through my creations. Why this even matters. It all boiled down to one thing, the feeling of being understood. To me, creativity is part of a formula. Creativity + authenticity + connection to self = understanding. Whether it is being understood by others or making someone feel understood creativity can bring that. I remember in my youth music was always a way I felt seen, hearing someone tell a story so similar to mine let me know I wasn't alone in this world and I want to bring the same feeling to others.

After having such a raw moment with myself I went in pursuit of getting that same raw insight from other creative to see how they define creativity. This four week series will introduce you to the emerging members of The Collective and allow you to see their views and understand their connection to their creativity. My hope is that with this 4 week project you gain creative inspiration, discover a talented new individual, for just have some new content to enjoy.

After all, what is creativity if it does not bring us all together?
